Our unseeing eyes
He
lost his lie
At
the gay bar.
She
propped hers up
At
the feminist book launch.
He
publicly took the pledge
Knowing
it merely
Preached
to the converted.
She
told his mother
That
only she could understand
The
truth
Regarding
her son
And
proceeded to set the record straight.
They
laughed inside the restaurant
While
being internally deflated.
The
propensity for falseness
In
the gaze of the public eye
Is
stronger than a promise.
Together
or alone
We
stand
Together
or Divided
We
don’t falter
Our
delusion is stronger
Than
blood
Our
undoing
Oft
realised never
Until
it’s too late.
